Who We Are

                    Albuquerque, New Mexico --

In February of 2000,The Community at Prayer came into being. We are a small faith community. The concept comes from Latin America where the ratio of priests to people is at times as high as one priest to 40 or 50 thousand people. So the only option is for people to minister to each other in prayer and study. Small faith communities nurture the faith constantly. When we think of it, our home, our family was our first small faith community and it is there that we received the gift of faith. Then we were sent and inspired to join the institutional church at the parish level and bring to it a living faith. It is in this process that we become the "salt" and "leaven" in the community of faith and beyond.

Besides ministering to each other daily, we meet to pray and study the Word of God. As we all know, this has been a wonderful spiritually enriching experience. We welcome everyone and The Community at Prayer continues to grow as does our faith.

New Mexico has always been priest-poor but with the shortage of priests becoming more acute, it won’t be long before small faith communities will be a must if we are to be a meaningful presence and force for change in the world in which we live. The work of Jesus must be done.
